HDT Expeditionary Systems

Q: What does HDT Expeditionary Systems manufacture?

A: HDT Expeditionary Systems manufactures the world’s most advanced shelter systems, which are highly mobile, flexible and optimized in every manner to reliably deliver to our customers each and every time. These innovative deployable solutions are used in some of the harshest environments for both military and non-military applications around the world.

Q: What makes HDT Expeditionary Systems’ deployable shelter solutions the most advanced in the world?

A: Our shelters have the most advanced frame support system technology available today. Both the folding frame system (Base-X) and the inflatable system (Vertigo) have patented technologies that allow for the advanced performance. These shelters have been proven through years of deployments in the harshest environments. Our shelters have unparalleled mobility, design flexibility and durability.

Q: Is there more than one shelter size?

A: The shelters range in size from personal tents to corps-level command and control (C2) complexes. They are available in 100-, 200-, 300-, 500- or Dome-series. No matter what the size, though, HDT Expeditionary Systems’ shelters offer the same level of interconnectivity, durability and ease of deployment.

Q: What are HDT Expeditionary Systems’ deployable shelters made of?

A: We have two primary types of systems: those that are fully inflatable, incorporating either our air cell or our recently added AirBeam technology; and those that are based on our frame system, which incorporates an outer cover and an inner liner.

The frame system is made with an aviation-grade aluminum frame to provide maximum strength in a compact, lightweight design; locking hubs and load-bearing ceiling points in order to increase durability; and interchangeable frame components.

The inflatable systems are made with either our air cell shelters or our AirBeam™ system, which is a technology that uses a fiber-reinforced elastomeric composite capable of containing high gas pressure and resisting bending. It can be formed in a multitude of different shapes, allowing for many unique shelter uses.

Q: What makes HDT Expeditionary Systems’ deployable shelters unique?

A: They are the most advanced lightweight, rapid-deploying tactical shelters available today. The unique patented folding frame design gives the system its superior strength and its rapid setup and strike capabilities. Our shelters are designed to meet the demanding performance requirements of the U.S. armed forces.

The unique features and performance are not limited to the frame. The cover is a well-designed, double-layer system. The outer cover is durable and watertight and has an interconnecting capability to link all other HDT Expeditionary Systems shelters, as well as most other shelters and vehicles.

Q: What happens when the shelter needs servicing?

A: They may be maintained, serviced and operated by the user in the field, without the use of repair kits and special tools provided by HDT. The user manual provides instruction needed to perform these functions, and training is provided with initial purchases. While HDT’s systems are known for their ease of use and in-field repair, we also have one of the strongest customer service relationships after the point-of-sale so that larger repairs and servicing can be provided at our production facilities at home.

Q: What type of C2 operations center capability does HDT Expeditionary Systems provide?

A: HDT can support a wide range of C2 applications — from the lowest tactical units to combatant command-level requirements. Functionally oriented C2 facilities support Air Command & Control, Air & Missile Defense, Administrative and Logistics Operations and Intelligence Fusion requirements.
